This is just a general call to whomever might read this.

If you can open Vue 6 VOB files and convert them to a more universal format, please do that to whatever VOB files I post.  I personally don't NEED it done, but I think it would be cool to have the community actually be able to use some of what's posted (even if the use is to tear it apart and only use a little piece.)

...and yes, as I make new models, I will post them in a more accessible format.  However, for the current crop of VOB models, I'm kinda outta luck.

Cheers!

Hey dmaland,
I just did a google search and
came across this python script
for Vue 6 that lets you export
in all the main formats.
It supports the import of 3dmf,
3ds, cob, dxf, lwo, obj, pz3,
raw, shd, skp and vob and can
use vue to export 3ds, c4d, dxf,
lwo, obj, shd and vob files.

I don't know much about it
since I personally use Blender
and have never tried Vue, but
hopefully this can help you out.

First, let me say "cheers!" for doing research out of the kindness of your heart.

Second...well, this is the bad news. My version of Vue is unable to use Python scripts. Only the "expensive" versions can do that.

Third, and this is the good news, maybe someone with a spendy version hasn't heard of this, and can make use of it. So, overall, a big "Thanks Shane!" to you for finding something cool - I'm sure it will be handy to someone.

Cheers again!

No problem.
Does the version you have let you export anything other than that
one format? I bet Blender will eventually be able to import Vue 6 files
so keep an eye on it. I don't know for sure, but they do have a pretty
long import/export list of common 3rd party software files so it would
be cool to see that one added.

Blender is open source and completely free to the public. If you haven't
checked it out, I highly recommend it. Good like with your search.

Vue 6 Esprit is limited to exporting "existing" polygon geometry in only the VOB format, although it can export terrains (heightfields) to geometry formats that are more common.

I am indeed a Blender user, although it has taken several attempts (and the inclusion/ default enabling of Maya style gizmos) for me to stop hating its interface. I use Blender only for polygon modeling duties at this point, because even though I think all of its actual capabilities are ready for prime time, the way that the user has to make them work doesn't fit my workflow.

Don't get me wrong, though. Blender is seriously cool, and its developers are very talented!

I've been using Blender off and on for 5 years and am still learning it.
Now that I'm getting used to its interface it's getting easier and easier
for me to think of something and then create it. But yeah, I totally
understand how difficult it can be. There are so many buttons and
gadgets if I don't have their functions memorized from frequent
use I'll just sit there and stare at them in confusion. ...or just experiment
and hope something cool comes out of it.
